Mackerness Hillery Goode 
Mackerness Hillery was born in 1812 in Charlotte Co., Va. Mackerness Hillery's father was John Goode and his mother was Mary Jones. His paternal grandparents were Mackerness Goode and FNU Moseley. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Nathaniel Macon, Edward Jones, Langston T., Mary E., Virginia, Agnes, Frances and Margaret. He died after 1885 in Franklin Co., Mo.General Notes

Mr. Goode, at 74 years of age, writes of his experiences since 1861. "I
have but little to tell. I sent two sons to the services of the
Confederacy, all that were old enough, and neither of them ever returned.
I entered the service at the beginning, and was at the battle of Wilson
Creek, and at the storming of Lexington, Mo. I was detailed on special
duty to take charge of military stores inside the Federal lines, and was
caught with them, imprisoned for six months, court-matialed, released on
a $5000 bond and limited to one county. I was finally forced to leave
home, and went with my family to St. Louis, and remained till the close
of the war. After the war ended, I was financially ruined. I never
returned to my old home in Morgan Co., but came to Pleasant Hill, where I
have educated my children in the public schools. p.p. 329 - 330
