Colonel Samuel, M.C. was born on March 21st, 1756 in Whitby, Virginia. Colonel Samuel, M.C.'s father was Robert Goode and his mother was Mary Turpin. His paternal grandparents were Robert Goode and Elizabeth Curd; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Turpin and Obedience Branch. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Francis, Thomas, Colonel Robert, Mary, Obedience, Martha, Martha 2d, Martha and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 66 on November 14th, 1822 in Mecklenburg Co., Va.General Notes

Colonel Samuel Goode doubtless served in the Continental Army. He was
member of Congress from 1799 -801, attending its session in Philadelphia.
A portrait painted by Charles Wilson Peale, is in possession of his
grandson, Dr. Samuel Hoode Harriss of Boydton. p. 63 Va Cousins
