  REFERENCE: 315 VA Cous
  John Goode No. 315 in Virginia Cousins served in the Norfolk campaign of
  the war of 1812, in Captain Burford's Company of Virginia troops. He and
  his brother Robert, No. 317, inherited upon their father's death in 1821,
  307 acres of land lying near the Midlothian coal mines in Chesterfield
  Co., probably a part of the old homestead, which they sold in 1822 to
  (their brother) Bennet Goode No. 318. John and Robert Goode were engaged
  to go to Washington County, in 1820, to prospect for coal for the
  Saltworks Company, and found small deposits in many places. John Goode
  was manager of the Saltworks in 1852. In middle life he was an officer in
  the State Militia. "The two brothers owned extensive tracts of land, and
  numerous slaves, brought from Chesterfield County. They were tall and
  considered very handsome - fit types of the Old Virginia Gentleman -
  free-hearted and hospitable." Virginia Cousins, p. 133.
