Rolfe was born on July 16th, 1744. Rolfe's father was Col. John Bolling and his mother was Elizabeth Blair. His paternal grandparents were Major John Bolling and Mary Kennon; his maternal grandfather was Archibald Blair. He had twelve brothers and eight sisters, named William L., Jared, Benjamin, Thomas, John Blair W., Robert, William, Rodney, Edward, Archibald, Powhatan, James, Meotake, Elizabeth, Martha, Dorthea, Jane, Mary, Sarah B. and Anne. He was the seventh youngest of the twenty-one children.-
