Houston was born on February 1st, 1892. Houston's father was Peyton Coker and his mother was Mary Louisa Carraway. His maternal grandparents were Henry C. Carraway and Mary Ann Staggs. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James Henry, Louis Allen, William Lee, Jasper, Mary A.R., Jenie, Irene and Rosella. He was the youngest of the nine children.-
