REF: Dick Schoenling <dtracy@@nospam.nortel.ca: Gospatric was not only the First Earl of Dunbar, but also Grandson of Uchtred-Earl of Northumberland, Great Grandson of Ethelred II - King of England, and Father of Aethelreda - wife(and Queen) of Duncan II - King of Scotland. In Gospatric the Earl, the greatest families of Scotland, Pictland, Northumbria, and England were combined. Cospatrick (a.k.a. Gospatric) claimed the right to the Earldom of Northumberland through his Mother, AElgitha/Elgiva. After a nasty disagreement with William the Conqueror, he fled north to his cousin's Kingdom in Scotland taking with him Edgar Atheling(the Saxon heir), Edgar's mother and sisters, one of which was Margaret, future Queen of Malcolm III and later known as Saint Margaret of Scotland. It is in Scotland where he is most reknowned as the First Earl & founder of the House & clan of Dunbar.
