Notes for John Bumpas:
John's home in Rochester, now Wareham, was still standing in 1978. John held a variety of lacal offices: "moderator" in 1739, "hog reeve" in 1742, "fence viewer" from 1743 to 1754, juryman in 1747 and "tything man" from 1764 to 1766. Among his children Jonathan had 5 children, John had 4 and Sarah had 4. Lydia and Hannah married brothers, Issac and Nathan, who were also first cousins of the ladies. There is more information about Nathan and Lydia on the sheet for Nathan's father, Isaac. Abigal Bumpas, wife of son Samuel, is a second cousin, daughter of Benjamin, who is a son of Jacob, who in turn is a son of Edward Bumpas. John's second wife was the widow of Shubel Claghorn.
