Ekaterina was born in 1008 in of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria.1 Ekaterina's father was Ivan Vladislav Tsar of Bulgaria and her mother was Marija of Bulgaria. Her paternal grandfather was Aron Lord West Bulgaria. She had a brother named Trajan. She was the younger of the two children. She died in in a cloister, Myrelaion.1
