Maria Manrique was born in 1129 in of Toledo, New Castile, Spain.1 Maria Manrique's father was Manrique de Lara and her mother was Hermensinde de Narbonne. Her paternal grandparents were Pedro Gonsalez de Lara and Eva de Trava; her maternal grandparents were Aimeri II Vct de Narbonne and Hermensinde (de Narbonne). She was an only child.
