Adeliza was born in 1072 in of Normandy, France.1   Adeliza's father was Hugh de Grentmesnil Lord Hinckley and her mother was Adelaide de Beaumont.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert de Grentmesnil and Advise (Hawisa) de Escalfoy; her maternal grandparents were Ivo de Beaumont and Adelaide de Gournay. She had a brother named Ivo de Grentmesnil.  She was the younger of the two children.
