Volney was born on January 27th, 1850 in Seaside, Dennis, Cape May, NJ.1 Volney's father was Thompson Van Gilder and his mother was Priscilla Corson. His paternal grandparents were Ezekial Van Gilder and Mary Chapman; his maternal grandparents were James Corson and Elizabeth Edwards. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thompson E, Lewis, James Corson, Permelia, Emily Cameron and Juliet. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 65 on April 8th, 1915 in Seaside, Dennis, Cape May, NJ.1 -
