Ellen (Eleanor) was born in 1316 in Thornton, Cheshire, England.  Ellen (Eleanor)'s father was Peter Thornton and her mother was Lucia Hellesby.  Her paternal grandparents were Randolph Peter Thornton and Katherine de St. Pierre; her maternal grandparents were William Hellesby and Alice Hawise Tursell. She had a sister named Maud (Matilda).  She was the older of the two children.
