His paternal grandparents were William Parsons and Margaret Hoskins; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Bliss and Margaret Hulings. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Joseph, John, Ebenezer, Jonathan, Samuel, Esther, Mary, Hannah, Abigail and Esther.-
