Alexander was born on April 25th, 1866.  Alexander's father was Charles Napper and his mother was Ann McCullough.  His paternal grandparents were John Napper and Mary Unknown. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, James, William Charles, Joseph, Frederick, Susan, Elizabeth and Dora.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.
