Adam Hawkes emigrated to Massachusetts in 1630 as a member of Governor Winthrop's party, settling first in Charlestown, MA, and, around 1634, in Saugus, where is was the proprietor of Hammersmith, the Saugus Iron Works.
Around 1631 Adam Hawkes married Ann (or Anna) Brown Hutchinson, probably a daughter of Edward and Jane Lide (Leid, or Lloyd) Brown, and sister of Nicholas Brown, born at Inkberrow, Worchestershire, around 1695.
