Patience was born in 1723 in , Cumberland, NJ.1 Patience's father was Thomas Gandy and her mother was Unknown Gandy. Her paternal grandfather was Thomas Gandy. She had two brothers and eight sisters, named Aaron, David, Catherine, Naomy, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Priscilla, Rebecca and Phoebe. She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
