Richard was born about 1603 in Dalbury Lees, Derbyshire, England. Richard's father was John Fowler and his mother was Frances Webb. His paternal grandparents were William Fowler and Ann Heawood; his maternal grandparents were William Webb and Elizabeth Sheard. He had a brother and four sisters, named William, Ann, Isabel, Alice and Judith. He was the third oldest of the six children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Joseph, Richard, Isabel, Margaret, Anne and Judith.-
