Catherine was born in 1852 in , Luzerne, PA.1 Catherine's father was Barnabas Cary and her mother was Margaret Breeze. Her paternal grandparents were Barnabas Cary and Sarah Smith. She had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Cornelius, Scott B, John, Rebecca, Mary and Adelia. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 31 in 1883 in , Luzerne, PA.1 -
