Godsgift was born in 1658 in Newport, Newport, RI.1 Godsgift's father was Benedict Arnold and her mother was Damaris Wescott. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Benedict, Caleb, Josiah, William, Oliver, Damaris, Penelope and Freelove. She was the second youngest of the nine children.
