Matilda was born in 0892 in of Mensleben, Saxony, Germany.1   Matilda's father was Theudebert (Dietrich) von Duke of Saxony and her mother was Ludmilla Ragnhildis von Friesland.  Her paternal grandfather was Reginhart Duke of Ringelheim; her maternal grandparents were Gottfried von Friesland and Matilda von Friesland.  She was an only child.1
