MARY HORNSBY
Garden City - Services for Mary Eddy Hornsby, 89, of West Surfwinds, will
be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 2, 1999 at Shepard of the Sea Lutheran
Church, with burial at 2:30 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbia. Visitation
will be 7-8:30 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Shepard of the Sea Lutheran Church, P.O. Box
1750, Murrells Inlet 29576 or Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box
1409, Myrtle Beach 29578.
Mrs. Hornsby died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at her residence. Born October
22, 1909 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late William and Laura
Amelia Counts Eddy. She retired as a Telephone Operator at Fort Jackson
and General Services after 17 yeras of service. In the 1940's, she
provided transportation for kindergarten children to and from school in
the Shandon area of Columbia. She was past president of the Ladies
Auxiliary Columbia Typographical Union no. 34. She was also a member of
Shepard of the Sea Luthean Church and a former member of Incarnation
Lutheran Church in Columbia. She was a devoted wife and grandmother.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Ben M. and Betty Hornsby of
Roswell, Ga.; daughter, Eaddy Mae Murphy of GardenCity Beach; son-in-law,
William Murphy of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, John and Susan Murphy,
Laura Murphy, Will Hornsby, Whatt Hornsby; great-grandchildren, Neal
Murphy, Keri Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude M.
Hornsby.
