RESEARCH NOTES:
perhaps a dau of Andronius I Commenus Bacileus 1155-1204 [Ref: Moriarty p174]
Paget 2:477 table III gives the first wife of Isaac II as Eirene, a daughter f
Emperor Andronicus I Komnenos. I can find no evidence for this affiliation.
Paul B Rupp, Die Vorfahren von Henriette von Mompelgard (Schriften zur
Sudwestdeutschen Landeskunde, 15, Stuttgart, 1977), tafel 16 (no 495) also
identifies her as Eirene N., citing C. Du Fresne, Seigneur Ducange, Familiae
augustae byzantinae (Paris, 1680), p 167, and M Bachmann, Die Rede des
Johannes Syropulos an des Kaiser Isaac H Angelos (diss. Munchen, 1935),
pp103-5, but later cites Oktawiusz Jurewicz, Andronikos I Komnenos (Amserdamm,
1970) pp 133-5 and the genealogical table as authority for the same account of
the parentage of the wife of Isaac II as Paget gives (Rupp, supra, pp 262,
269). I can find no statement in Jurewicz to support Rupp's theory. That
Isaac's daughter was named Eirene is against the name proposed for the mother
