Thomas was born in 1169 in of Elington, Lincolnshire, England.1   Thomas' father was Thurstan le Despenser.  His paternal grandparents were William Talvas Montgomery le Despenser and Alix (Ala) de Burgundy.  He was an only child.  He died before 1218.1
