Hughes was born in 1020 in of Châstellerault, Vienne, France.1   Hughes' father was Boso I Vct of Châstellerault and his mother was Amelia (de Chastellerault).  His paternal grandparents were Airaud V Vct of Châstellerault and Gersende de Mortimer.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 55 in 1075.1
