Jean de Brienne 
Jean was born about 1168.1 Jean's father was Erard II of Brienne and his mother was Agnes of Montfaucon. His paternal grandparents were Gauthier II de Brienne and Adele de Rameru; his maternal grandfather was Richard II de Montbeliard. He was an only child.1 General Notes

Jean de Brienne was yr. son o f Erard II, Count of Brienne (who fought in the 3rd Crusade, bei ng killed at Acre, 8 Feb. 1191),. by Agnes de Montfaucon (m. 116 6), dau. Richard II, Count of Montbeliard. Jean de Brienne m. (1 ) 15 Sep. 1210, Mary, dau. Conrad de Montferrat, by wife Isabel , dau. Amaury I, King of Jerusalem. He became King of Jerusale m by election of the Barons, in right of his wife, who died shor tly leaving a daughter and heiress, in whose right he reigned; m . (2) 1214, Stephanie, dau. and h. Leo II, King of Armenia who d .s.p. 1219. On mar. of his dau. Yolande, he returned to Europe ; m. (3) 1223, Berengaria (d. 12 Apr. 1237), dau. of Alphonso IV , King of Castile and Leon.
