John de Montague was born about 1329 in of Donyatt, Somersetshire.1   John de Montague's father was William de Montague II Earl of Salisbury and his mother was Katherine de Grandeson.  His paternal grandparents were William de Montague Lord Montague and Elizabeth de Montfort; his maternal grandparents were William de Grandeson Lord Grandeson and Sybil de Tregoze. He had two sisters named Philippa and Sibyl.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Sir John de Montague Lord.1
