Robert's father was Hugh De GRANTMESNIL, Count Of Grantmesnil and his mother was Adeliza Of Beaumont. His paternal grandparents were Robert De GRENTMESNIL and Hawise De ECHAFOUR; his maternal grandparents were Ivo II Count Of Beaumont and Judith. He was an only child.
