Roger was born about 1150.1 Roger's father was Hugh BIGOD, Earl Of Norfolk And Suffolk and his mother was Juliana VERE. His paternal grandparents were Roger Bigod and Alice de Toeni; his maternal grandparents were Alberic II De VERE, Lord Of Hedingham and Adeliza De CLARE. He was an only child. 1189: appointed by King Richard one of the ambassadors to Philip of
France, for obtaining aid for the recovery of the Holy Land. [Ref: Wurts p44]
1191: Keeper of Hereford Castle. [Ref: Wurts p44]
1195-1202: Chief Judge in King's Court [Ref: Wurts p44]
1200: send by King John as one of his messengers to summon Williamthe
Lion, Ling of Scotland, to do homage to him in the parliament which was
held at Lincoln, and subsequently attended King John into Poitou, but on
his return he was won over to their cause by the rebel Barons and bacame
one of the strongest advocates of the Charter of Liberty, for which he
was excommunicated by Pope Innocent III. [Ref: Wurts p44]
