Tombstone inscription, Gloucester Co., Virginia:
In perpetual memory of ye virtuous Lucy Burwell the Loveing and Beloved Wife of Major Lewis Burwell of ye County of Gloster in Virginia (long since deceased) She was decended from the Ancient family of the Higginsons. She was ye only Daughter of the valliant Capt Robert Higginson One of the first comandrs that subdued the country of Virginia from the power of the heathen who not being more worthy in her birth than Vertuous in her life Exchanged this World for a Better one on the 6th November, in the **** yeare of her Age, Anno Domini 1675. *** buried on the **ght hand of her ***d ** her M*******ll of her owne Grandchildren.
