Sarah's father was Benjamin Woodson and her mother was Sarah Porter. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Woodson and Elizabeth Ferris; her maternal grandfather was William Porter. She had five brothers and a sister, named John, Joseph, Robert, William, Benjamin and Elizabeth.-
