Spencer was born on April 4th, 1762 in Essex Co., Virginia. Spencer's father was William Roane and his mother was ? Ball. His paternal grandparents were William Roane and Sarah Upshaw; his maternal grandparents were Spencer Ball and ? Mottram. He had a sister named Judith. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 60 on September 4th, 1822.-
