Mertie Brent was born on May 1st, 1880 in Fluvanna Co., VA. Mertie Brent's father was William D. Gillespie and her mother was Susan Ann Walker. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Austin Gillespie and Susan King; her maternal grandparents were William T. Walker and Elizabeth Payne. She was an only child. She died at the age of 92 on March 3rd, 1973 in Cackeysville, MD.
