Richard's father was Benjamin Doggett and his mother was Betty ?.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Doggett and Jane ?. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, John, William, Ann, Elizabeth, Hannah, Jane and Margaret. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Reuben, Thomas, Mary and Winifred.
