Martha Ann was born in 1830. Martha Ann's father was Sowersby Curry and her mother was Mary Ann Stubbs. Her maternal grandparents were Lawrence Smith Stubbs and Mary Ann Davis. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William Henry, Laurence, America and Maria H.. She was the oldest of the five children.-
