Melzi Sanford was born on June 29th, 1815 in "Fairview", Spotsylvania Co., Virginia.  Melzi Sanford's father was George Chancellor and his mother was Ann Lyon.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 79 on February 20th, 1895 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
