John was born in 1613 in Edmonton, Middlesex, England.1   John's father was John Carter and his mother was Bridget Benion.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Carter and Jone Hyll. He had two brothers named Thomas and Robert. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named George, Silvester, William, Anne, Elizabeth, Mary and Isabel.  He died in "Corotoman", Lancaster Co., VA.  He was buried in Christ Church, Lancaster Co., VA.1
