Living's father was Robert O. Butts and his mother was Margaret Earl Snead. His maternal grandparents were John Earl Snead and Frances Elizabeth Glenn. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Living, Living, Living and Living. He had a half-sister named Frances Elizabeth.
