Lewis Burwell 
Lewis was born about 1621 in Ampthill, Bedford, England. Lewis' father was Edward Burwell and his mother was Dorothy Bedell. His paternal grandparents were Edward Burwell and Jane Wingate; his maternal grandfather was William Bedell. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Edward, George, Edward, Dorothy and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died on November 19th, 1653 in VA.General Notes

To the lasting memory of Major Lewis Burwell of the County of Gloucester, in Virginia, Gentleman, who descended from the Ancient family of the Burwells, of the Counties of Bedford and Northampton, In England, nothing more worthy in his Birth than a virtuous in his life, exchanged This Life for a better on the 19th day of November in the 33d year of his age A. D. 1658
