Newman was born in 1700 in Richmond Co, VA.  Newman's father was William Brockenbrough and his mother was Mary Newman.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Newman and Elizabeth Burdett. He had three brothers and a sister, named Austin, William, Thomas and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 42 on May 15th, 1742 in "Folly Neck", Richmond Co., VA.
