Joseph's father was Joseph Brock and his mother was Mary Beverley Chew. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Brock and Mary Clayton; his maternal grandparents were John Larkin Chew and Margaret Beverley. He had a sister named Elizabeth. He died in 1806 in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia.
