Eliza Gay's father was Edward Bentley and her mother was Elizabeth Gay. Her maternal grandparents were William Gay and Frances Trent. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Alexander Willis, Efford Bolling, John Gay, William Field, Fanny Trent, Lavinia and Maria Buchanan.-
