Mary was born about 1659. Mary's father was George Bates and her mother was Mary Smith. Her paternal grandparents were John Bates and Elizabeth Winston?; her maternal grandfather was James Smith. She had three brothers named James, John and George. She was the youngest of the four children. She died in 1700 in York Co., Virginia.-
