John was born in 1751.  John's father was John Armistead and his mother was Hannah Harrison.  His paternal grandparents were Francis Armistead and Sarah Smith; his maternal grandparents were William Harrison and Elizabeth DeMovel. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, Francis, Thaddeus, Joanna, Sarah, Elizabeth, Fanny, Hannah, Mary and Nancy.  He died at the age of 79 in 1830 in Smith Co., Tennessee.
