  WILLIAM BALL, G-G-GRANDFATHER OF GEORGE WASHINGTON
  William Ball was born in Wokingham, England, in 1569. He married Alice Waltham in England in about 1590. Alice was a daughter of Richard Waltham. William brought his family to America in about 1635-7 in the goodly company of Rev. Mr. Davenport. This company of colonists, led by the Rev. John Davenport and his friend, Theophilus Eaton, "arrived at Boston in the ship, Hector, and another ship, Planter, on June, 26, 1637. The company subsequently sailed from Boston for the spot previouslly selected for them by Mr. Eaton and others of their associates, in the spring of 1638, and arrived at their destination April 14th, 1638. The spot thus selected for the settlement was then known by the Indian name of Quinnipiac, and afterwards by that of New Haven in the Puritan New Haven Colony in CT. Thomas Fugill and his sister Dorothy Fugill, who became the wife of William Ball's son, Alling, were also a part of Rev. Davenport's company. William Ball was George Washington's great-great-grandfather through his son William; and my great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-grandfather. I believe that makes me a many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many times removed cousin of George Washington, through his mother Mary Ball Washington. (Meri Odell Thomsen) I've included the descendency from William to George Washington in this tree. William Ball died in New Haven in April of 1648. William and Alice Ball had the following children: Alling, b. 1595. (Our ancestor.) John, b. 1597; d. Nov. 1, 1655, in Watertown, MA. Francis, b. 1599; married Abigail Burt on May 8, 1644; d. Oct. 3, 1648, in Springfield, MA. Samuel, b. 1600. Richard, b. 1601. Willliam, b. 1603; married Hannah Atherold July 2, 1638. (He was George Washington's great-grandfather.) Ball's migration was in April 1635, from Wiltshire, England to America on the ship Planter. William of Lincoln's Inn (in Middlesex, near London, England) apparently rates this title because he lived in Lincoln's Inn, not that he was born there. He signed the "Visitation of London" from the Harleian Society's Herald, 1633-5 for his Ball family ancestors and siblings. He was one of four attorneys in The Office of Pleas in the Exchequer Court. A William Ball arrived in America on the English ship Planter, about April, 1635 with six sons - Alling, Francis, John, Samuel, Richard, and William, according to "The Name And Family Of Ball", and affirmed by a genealogist with the Institute of American Genealogy of Chicago. We have found by a "preponderance of the evidence' that William of Lincoln's Inn had the six sons: Alling, Francis, John, Samuel, Richard and William (William of Millenbeck). Some sources state that William of Lincoln's Inn was married to Dorothy Tuttle at the same time as Alice Waltham. A majority of sources dispute this and record Dorothy Tuttle as married to William's son, Alling Sr.
