Young was born on February 12th, 1803.  Young's father was Arnold Mann and his mother was Rebecca Wright.  His paternal grandparents were John Mann and Elizabeth Mann; his maternal grandparents were Winfield Wright and Hanna Wright. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Jonathan, John, James, Jesse, Jeremiah D., Susan and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
