    Gaunt and sharp-featured, Benjen is Lord Eddard’s only surviving sibling. He joined the Night’s Watch in the aftermath of Robert’s Rebellion, and has since risen to the rank of First Ranger, making him one of the chief officers on the Wall and a potential successor to the office of Lord Commander. Very skilled in ranging beyond the Wall, Benjen’s name commands respect.
    
    Throughout the series, Benjen has been "Lost" while  ranging beyond the Wall - he is presumed dead.
