Elizabeth was born in 1759 in Brightwell, Berkshire, England. Elizabeth's father was William Castell and her mother was Mary Gregory. Her maternal grandparents were Abraham Gregory and Hannah Cobb. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Gabriel, Robert, John, Mary and Jane. She was the oldest of the seven children.-
