Martin was born on October 30th, 1797.  Martin's father was Jakub Šenkér and his mother was Alžbeta Kusová.  His paternal grandparents were Ján Šenkér and Anna Ondrášová. He had a brother and a sister, named Pavol and Alžbeta .  He was the oldest of the three children.
