Nettia U was born in March 1885 in Maryland.¹ Nettia U's father was James Clinton Wise and her mother was Margaret E. Wise ?. She had seven brothers and a sister, named James W., Herbert, Henry A, William P, Virgil M, Earnest A, Joseph A and Mary H. She was the third oldest of the nine children. She had two half-brothers named Virgil and Charles B.
