Mary V. was born about 1870 in Maryland.¹ Mary V.'s father was William S Wise and her mother was Mary E Joy. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Wise and Rebecca Druey; her maternal grandparents were William Thomas Joy and Jane Elizabeth Lawrenson. She had a brother and two sisters, named George Andrew, Rosa Christine and Annie P.. She was the third oldest of the four children.
